詳情內容

Zac and Chester’s Hong Kong Dog Friendly Walks We think there is definitely more to Hong Kong than shopping and eating! This page is about our favorite pastime – hiking. Hong Kong has one of the highest percentage areas of country parks in the world. We would like to let you know about our favorite walks and help you to enjoy themBios:

Chester (The Molester)

Chester was born in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia, his pedigree is impeccable but alas despite being trained to race for 2 years, Chester was too slow. He was handed to the Queensland greyhound adoption programme and then after 3 months traveled to Hong Kong via air. His crate was the largest in the store!
He has since enjoyed life in The Ark dividing his time between the staff room sofa and the beanbags in Dr Kylie’s house.
Chester likes cats, remote control cars and of course hiking.
Ben, Dr Kylie’s eldest son thinks Chester’s racing name should have been “Mummy’s Boy”.

Zac (The Zac attack)

Zac was born on the other side of the blanket so to speak in northern New South Wales.
He came to Hong Kong with his sister Zilla in 2005 at 4 months of age.
Zac shares the sofa and bean bags with Chester. He is not so interested in cats but likes balls and Frisbees. He just can’t understand why Dr Kylie throws them away again as soon as he brings them back. Zac has never raced or been in racing kennels. He just loves to keep up with Chester.

Location: Western end of Hong Kong Island
Difficulty: Easy
Distance: 2.3km or 4.6 if walk back to beginning
Time: ½ - 1 hour

Description: This is a great walk when you are limited in time or it is very hot. The east west direction of the walk and the mountain to the south means that the pathway is only occasionally in full sun. There are beautiful overhanging trees making much of the walk very shady. The many birds and cicadas almost drown out the traffic noise only a few meters below you. This is a very popular walk for dog owners so you will meet lots of friends. Watch out for those joggers – they can be difficult to avoid.
Start:

On foot:
Po Shan Road, after Conduit and Kotewell Roads meet. 200 meters up the hill just before the sharp left turn and the fire station, there is a small set of stairs on the right side of the road beside the public toilet block.

By Car:
Take a taxi or drive to Kotewell Road and get out at the taxi rank just past the Hong Kong University – opposite the toilet block. Walk down the stairs and at the bottom turn left on to the path. Follow the path along until you reach the Queen Mary Hospital. The path is very flat with no hills or stairs. We normally turn around and walk all the way back again – everything looks different when you see it from the other side!
You can always change your mind and walk down to Pok Fu Lam Road on any of the paths that go down hill.
