In a recent study conducted by the Government's Leisure and Cultural Services Department, it was found that the fitness levels of individuals in Hong Kong are starting to deteriorate as early as thirty years-of-age (reported in the South China Morning Post, September 24, 2006). One in two men and one in four women in their 'thirties are overweight. Seventy percent of adults over the age of twenty do not undertake sufficient aerobic exercise to be of benefit to their health. As a result, young adults are already suffering from physical problems that one normally associates with middle age.
In response to these trends, HealthFit offers a Functional Movement and Fitness Programme which normally consists of the assessment of body composition, and of cardio-respiratory and muscle fitness, a minimum of 8-12 sessions to develop motor ability and fitness and a final reassessment of body composition and cardio-respiratory fitness. In practice, we modify the programme to customize a programme for each client, depending on what is required. A Fitness Advisory Service is available for clients who wish to undertake a fitness programme using off-site facilities. Tests to assist the client with weight management are also available.
