Home-Away-From-Home
Parents always want the best for their children. When children are hospitalised, they become frightened, lonely, in pain and especially need the support of their families. In turn, family members become more vulnerable as they manage their own fears and daily affairs. The Ronald McDonald House is built to provide a "home-away-from-home" for the families and children as they cope with the difficult time. It provides accommodation in a supportive, loving environment, just minutes away from the sick child.

A House for Hong Kong
Asia's first Ronald McDonald House was established in 1996 in Hong Kong. The 2,000 square metre site is a convenient four-minute walk from the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin, located on a quiet reservoir access road at the western edge of To Shek Village
.

The 20-bedroom House gives occupants the privacy of their own air-conditioned, bathroom-equipped bedrooms. Everyone shares common areas, such as the living room, kitchen and games room. Any family with a sick child under 18 who is receiving treatment can apply to stay at the House. The daily room fee is HK$70, and referrals can be made through medical staff.

Why is your help needed?
Ronald McDonald House is the cornerstone project of Ronald McDonald House Charities and is dependent on community support. Volunteers play a major role in all daily duties from housekeeping to fund-raising and providing friendly support to families living in the House. Only with the generous donations from community groups, local businesses and private individuals can the House continue to service those children and their families in need.
