Ken's Saxophone
Ken started learning saxophone at 13, shortly after, he won the saxophone competition in Hong Kong Schools Music Festival at 16. In the same year, he became the soloist for an original composition during the New Generation Hong Kong Youth Composers Competition. Also, he participated in the school symphonic band which was the winners in school band competitions in Music Office Winds Festival and Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.
Ken received the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM) Grade 8 certificate with distinction in Alto Saxophone, Grade 8 certificate with merit in music theory and Trinity Guildhall Grade 8 certificate with merit in Jazz Tenor Saxophone. He received his Bachelor degree and Master degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Though he chose another profession in academic study, he devoted his life in music and had participated in different bands and orchestras including Tom Lee Winds Orchestra, Hong Kong Symphonic Band, Hong Kong Symphony Orchestra, Basic Notes Jazz Big Band, Friend’s Group Jazz Big Band, Saturday Night Jazz Orchestra and various ensemble groups and music performances. Ken is also the saxophonist in local jazz-rock band, Topao.
Though the years playing in different music entities, Ken had the chances to broaden his music interest: Taking parts from soprano, alto, tenor to baritone saxophones and studying and performing classical, jazz, pop, rock, funk, Latin and modern music.
Apart from playing saxophone, Ken is also a flute and clarinet player.
In 2010, Ken has participated in various performance including “Swing for All” in Shanghai Expo 2010, saxophone duo with artist Mr. Shek Sau and RTHK TV Program “The Works”.
