About Us
Founded in 2002, Story Jungle is a premier English learning centre
tailored for Hong Kong students 3 to 18 years old specialising in
English reading, writing, grammar and speaking.
Our Belief
We believe a good command in the English language starts with the development of intrinsic reading and writing habits. Therefore, it is Story Jungle's goal to cultivate a love for English reading and writing among all students.
As an enhancement to our programmes, students are required to read top-notch children's literature from the United States and the United Kingdom.
We hold our book selection process to the highest standard. We source books that:
are well-written, thought-provoking and inspiring
are world-class literature but not commonly found in bookstores in Hong Kong
we know (from experience) children will enjoy reading
These reading materials serve as supplements to our curriculum whereupon students are taught to draw creative ideas from the likes of Roald Dahl, descriptive language and poetic expressions from Katie DiCamillo and real-life insights from Louis Sachar and Jerry Spinelli.
Our Programmes
Story Jungle’s programmes are tailored made by experienced teachers to target Hong Kong students’
needs and help them excel in English reading, writing, grammar and speaking. We believe each English
learner faces a unique set of challenges. Some learners lack innovative writing ideas, while others
have difficulty applying grammar rules in their writing; certain learners lack interest in and exposure to
good reading material, while others struggle with structuring their writing and presentations.
The above mentioned are very different skill sets and we have therefore designed courses that target
fundamental grammar concepts, reading motivation, imaginative thinking, academic and creative writing.
Assessment and Consultation
At Story Jungle, we believe every child is different; therefore, we offer a comprehensive assessment,
free of charge, to all new students. The Story Jungle assessment hones in on the student’s English
grammar, reading, writing and speaking abilities to find his or her strengths and weaknesses. Upon
completion of the assessment, our teachers will offer a thorough consultation for parents explaining the
student’s evaluation and English standard. In doing so, both parents and teachers can better
understand students’ needs and Story Jungle can accurately place students into the most suitable class
and ensure that they reach their full potential.
Grammar Enhancement through Reading and Writing (GRW) *Core Programme*
Grammar lessons are interwoven with interactive reading and writing exercises to
strengthen students’ English foundation under the guidance of our whole language approach.
Creative Reading and Writing (CW) *Core Programme*
Students will learn creative writing techniques and varied writing styles to inspire them to create
interesting stories of their own innovation. The course will help students nuture a love for English
literature and a natural desire to read and write.
Oral Express (OE)
Students will practice their oral skills by presenting their views through oral interviews, debates
and presentations. It aims to strengthen student’s vocabulary usage, pronunciation, intonation
for the purpose of enhancing their competence and confidence by communicating in English.
Reading Comprehension & Academic Writing (RC+AW)
Students will learn reading comprehension techniques to decipher various passages and how to
construct different formats and genres of academic writing, including essays, articles and letters.
HKDSE
Students will practice the 4 papers in the English DSE subject: Reading, Writing, Listening &
Integrated Skills, and Speaking. Students will learn exam techniques and useful methods on how
to score well in the exam.
Liberal Studies (LS)
This course introduces students to various non-fiction materials and trains students how to use
critical thinking to analyse current events and other topics.
Pre-K and K-Fun Classes (KF)
This course immerses young children in an all-English environment through read-along story time
and fun activities. This class boosts children’s confidence in English and phonetic usage.
