HK wine Merchants' Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong is the only major economy in the world to impose no duty, no VAT and no sales tax on wine. It was predicted Asian wine imports, excluding Japan, to reach 1.5 billion US dollars by 2017 while Asian wine consumption, excluding Japan, will reach 27 billion US dollars by the same year. Appreciation of wine, both consumption and as an investment, is really taking off in Asia and Hong Kong has emerged as the international wine trading hub for the region.
The HKWMCC was founded to promote and advance the efficient communications between members, to strengthen unity, friendly relationships and linkage among all companies in Hong Kong wine industries. We support the Government in strengthening Hong Kong's position as "Asian Wine Trading Hub".
The missions of “Hong Hong Wine Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce”
As a trade party, we are obliged to carry out the mission for our industry. The principles of “Hong Hong Wine Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce” are as follows:
To unite all sectors of wine industry of Hong Kong;
To provide communication channels between our wine industry and government;
To co-ordinate the relationships among companies within industry so as to fully employ our entrepreneurial characteristics and strengths;
To assist members to explore the mainland market, discover resources, establish communication platform, and create beneficial business environment of our industry in mainland market.
Review and Prospect
Looking back to the end of 2009, we met a number of difficulties in the initial stage of our Chamber’s establishment. There are numerous elite people in our industry, and there are abundance of talents and experience within us no matter whatever in doing business, logistics, marketing, catering, wine appreciating, etc. The challenges lie in the discussion in wider scope concerning our industry’s needs when beyond their primary expertise. There is never a one trial success to establish a common goal platform; this requires the generous acceptance by our industry colleagues, mutual trust and encouragement, and the effort for developing our common rationale. To update, the establishment of our Chamber hugely relies on the efforts by all sides. We are so blessed!
In lines with enhancing our industry’s development necessities, other than the Chamber Directors’ Board, a number of functional advisory committees are set up so as to work on our common interest development.
