The Lark Group introduced the UA Cinemas Brand to Hong Kong in 1985 with the opening of UA Shatin. Today UA Langham Place and UA Times Square rank among the top five cinemas in Hong Kong. UA operates seven premiere cinemas with thirty-one screens in prime locations in Hong Kong. These cinemas are:
UA Citygate - four screens; UA Cityplaza - seven screens; UA Langham Place - six screens; UA Sha Tin - three screens; UA Times Square - four screens; UA Whampoa - four screens. UA Windsor House - three screens.
In 2001, the Group proudly introduced the concept of luxury cinema entertainment in Hong Kong. In addition to five first-class houses, UA Cityplaza operates two Director's Clubs, each offering 16 luxurious seats with side tables, exclusive VIP lounge, personalized catering service and private washrooms. An intimate and pampered experience for a truly memorable magical escape from reality.
The Group opened UA Langham Place in November 2004, a six-screen mulitplex cinema offering seating capacity of 1,122 seats. Equipped with high-back Epic Rocking Chair seats which were tailor-made with cupholder flip up retrackable arm rests for that ultimate "Love Seat" experience. The cinema boasts all stadium seating with ample legroom for the comfort of every patron and wall to wall giant screens. UA Langham Place Cinema is the number one grossing cinema in Hong Kong.
In April 2006 UA Cinemas committed to lease Kerry Properties MEGABOX Cineplex to build a seven-screen state-of-the-art cinema in the MEGABOX retail complex in Kowloon Bay. The project is scheduled to open in June of 2007, with Hong Kong's first IMAX-MPX cinema.
The Group also currently owns and operates the STUDIO CITY branded multiplex cinemas in Shanghai, Wuhan and Chongqing, and manages a second cinema in Wuhan. All four cinemas are among the 30 leading cinemas in China, with the cinema in Shanghai ranking in the top ten nationwide.
In June 2006 The group entered into a lease agreement with Hutchison Whampoa to build a six-screen multiplex in Guangzhou at the Metropolitan Plaza. The new cinema is scheduled to open during the first quarter of 2008.
The Group also wholly owns CityLine (Hong Kong) Limited, Hong Kong's second largest ticket vendor, after Urbtix. CityLine began in 1993 with telephone bookings, and pioneered Internet ticketing in June 1997. The services allow filmgoers a convenient, low cost means for remote purchase of tickets for UA cinemas. CityLine also offers tickets and ticket services for other events, including an exclusive service agreement with URBTIX, & DisneyLand.
