Bagpiper Stuart Fung
蘇格蘭風笛手-馮永昌
For your events and ceremonies
Welcome to my website! I am a bagpiper from Hong Kong and I am available to perform at your events or ceremonies. The sound of the highland bagpipes is so powerful. With the drones harmonize with the melody, which produce a very unique quality and identity. Since it is a war related instrument, and pipers are always lead from the front, so it is not just ordinary music, but also musical statements of loyalty, honor, faith, dedication and determination. You can feel those qualities through the bagpipe music. That is why I am so proud to be a piper. And I am also proud to be of service to you too. I can be contacted through email: [email protected]
I start piping at the age of 16. At the beginning, I learnt from books with computer aids. During each summer, I studied piping with Gurkha regiments which stationed in Hong Kong, including the 6th Queen Elizabeth’s Own Gurkha Rifles Pipes and Drums and the 10th Princess Mary's Own Gurkha Rifles Pipes and Drums.
Then I attended workshops for light music and pibroch at Balmoral School of Piping, Pittsburgh, USA, for two summers. My world class instructors include Mike Cusack, Alasdair Gillies, Norman Gillies, Scot Walker, Donald Macfee, George Balderose and Jackie Pincet.
In 1997, I studied with Bruce Gandy and Scott MacAulay at the College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts of Canada, Summer side, Prince Edward Island. In October of 1997, I won the award for most promising player at the Nicol-Brown Invitational Competition.
In December of 1997, I studied with Angus J MacLellan at the College of Piping, Glasgow, Scotland, and earned the Graduate Certificate and the Teaching Certificate by the Institute of Piping.
In 2001, I attended the Southern EUSPBA Pipe Major Course by Kan Eller at Atlanta, USA.
