About 89268:
89268 is an arts and cultural group established in 2000. 89268 operates two music labels, an artist management agency, a music & fashionable goods store “the PANIC”, a membership system“club8”, a lifestyle brand “Upstairs”, a workshop and event space “Lab Yellow”.
Since its first music release in 2002, 89268 has spun off more than 30 titles. Independent bands such as Gayamyan, inLove, OLIVER, The Darlings, The Pliable and The Swamp (Guangzhou) are parts of the releases. 89268 has also released compilations like “Come out and play” 3CD compilation to which 39 indie acts have contributed, “The 5th Element” 2CD compilation which commemorates its 5th anniversary in 2005, and the “Boo” Series of compilations which brought together new bands and new voices in 2006. The latest project is the “Lab Yellow Session” series of live recording albums.
89268 has always collaborated with different organizations and corporate. In 2004, a music/design exhibition called “Come out and play” was co-presented by 89268 and Fabrica Features by United Colors of Benetton. In 2005, 89268 worked with the Hong Kong Arts Festival to hold a live band show called “Come out and play” in the 33rd Hong Kong Arts Festival. In early 2006, 89268 and IFVA
(Hong Kong Independent Short Film & Video Awards) co-presented a live show in the Hong Kong Arts Centre, and a DVD for the show called “mv.EVERYWHERE.dvd” was released. On the corporate side, very major collaboration with corporate was the “GO” music event organized by “Beck’s” German Import Beer from 2006 until the present. 89268 has been the music partner since the event, with Beck’s also sponsorsing several of 89268’s music releases and events.
In 2003, the PANIC was moved from Tsim Sha Tsui to Mongkok. Two years later, in 2005, a second store called the PANIC 2 was opened in the Hong Kong Arts Centre. The PANIC focuses on selling lifestyle items such as CDs, DVDs, magazines, books, t-shirts, independent artist creations and accessories from all over the world to music and fashion lovers. Also, the PANIC would constantly
invite artists from different media to explore different kind of collaborations.
