It is the belief of the KinderU Suzuki Music Academy that all children have the ability to learn and appreciate music, and that the experience of enjoying it will develop their characters and enrich their lives and the lives of those around them.
The foremost goal of the KinderU Suzuki Music Academy is to enrich the community by:
Instilling in all children a love and enjoyment of music and its creation;
Fostering deeper relationships between parents and their children through mutual learning and practice;
Providing a nurturing environment for children and parents to learn and grow at their own pace;
Developing within students the skills necessary to be leaders in their schools, respectful in society, disciplined in work, and confident in life;
Promoting the ability for children to communicate with all cultures through the universal language of music.
KinderU Suzuki Music Academy is the creation of passionate educators dedicated to bringing the very best in early childhood music education to Hong Kong. Founded in 2006 by Ms. Jennifer Moberg, qualified Suzuki instructor and performer, and Thomas and Betty Ho, owners of the Rightmind/KinderU corporation, KinderU Suzuki Music is the first certified Suzuki centre in the region. The Suzuki community grew from 15 students to 150, and is quickly becoming one of the premier music schools in Hong Kong. Our students now occupy top seats in the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, as well as many of the top international schools, and they routinely receive high marks and placements in the HKSMA Music Festivals.
What is the difference between KinderU Suzuki Music Academy and others of the myriad of music schools around Hong Kong? The difference is that our focus is on building the character of our children rather than pushing them to examination and certificates. We believe that music should be learned for the sake of music, and those that are able should share their gifts and talents as a service to the community. KSMA students perform frequently, including concerts for the St. James Settlement for the Elderly, the Chi Heng Foundation, Make-a-Wish Foundation, the Suicide Prevention Society, and many others. In 2011 students from KinderU Suzuki Music Academy were invited to perform with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
In addition to building character through music, Suzuki aims to build stronger families. Parents come to all lessons with the children and learn how to play the instrument alongside them. This helps strengthen relationships through the mutual pursuit of learning, loving and creating beautiful music. As one parent says: “Everyone is talking about how to spend quality time with your children in your busy. I found Suzuki violin has provided us with the best quality time ever. My son cherishes the special moments he spends with me while we are practicing violin together.”
The KinderU Suzuki Music Academy offers Fall and Spring terms which generally follow the ESF calendar, and a flexible summer term. We offer instruction in violin, viola, cello, piano and Gordon Method Early Childhood Education. The school provides opportunities for families to travel to international Suzuki conferences as well as our own summer strings camp. Our students have attended Suzuki Institutes in the United States, Canada, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan and many more!
KSMA is affiliated with Rightmind Kindergarten, a progressive and comprehensive international kindergarten and nursery. Here children are encouraged to learn language, music, math, and many other subjects from an early age with joy and excitement, employing right brain education methods.
