To further promote Hong Kong as the “City of Life” and the most popular tourist destination in Asia, the Hong Kong SAR Government is investing a large amount of money in the tourism industry and other related initiatives. There will be increased career opportunities in the tourism and hospitality sectors. To grasp these career development opportunities effectively, good English is a prerequisite. The programme provides an intensive training to tourism practitioners in the use of good English skills for their work.
Objectives
Upon completion of the programme, students should be able to:
- Have a deeper understanding of the principles and elements of effective communication in the tourism industry;
- Develop strategies and skills in using English in the tourism and hospitality sectors;
- Become aware of the cultural differences in the English language and their effects on work-related cross-cultural communication; and
- Master the four English language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) to sit for the English Benchmark tests and a pass in the test is required for Continuing Education Fund reimbursement.
Who Should Attend
Anyone who is working in or would like to pursue a career in the tourism and hospitality industry.
Assessment
Students are required to have an overall pass in each course assessment which consists of Continuous Assessment (in the form of assignments, presentation and test etc.) and examination. The passing mark is 50%.
