History:
The company opened its first shop in December 1991 mainly selling English computer books and magazines. The collections in the shop are mainly ordered directly from overseas for PC, MAC and UNIX users. Shop 206 in Mongkok Computer Centre is the first shop of the Data Bank computer book shop chain. The shop is small but the book collection is abundant Due to the supreme location of the Mongkok Computer Centre, our competitive pricing policy and the brillant collection of computer books. Data Bank rapidly gained support from the public. Shop 313A was opened in June 1995 to assist Shop 206 catering for more customers with better shopping enviroment.
The Causeway Bay shop was opened in May 1993 and was moved to the present address in May 1995. The floor space of the shop is approximately 2700 sq. feet which is the biggest among our 4 shops and bears one of the most abundant collection of computer books in Hong Kong. Software and computer accessories are also available there. The Shatin shop was opened in December 1995 catering for customers from Shatin and New Territories East. The shop is situated in the most popular shopping centre in the district - the New Town Plaza. It is a good place to readers who got only Sunday - the traditional family day to choose their computer books. Computer accessories are also available there.
Strategy :
The company is very active in promoting the company's image and maximizing exposure of the products to the potential customers. Data Bank participates in the Hong Kong International Book Fair every year occasionaly show up for computer books promotion by selectively joining various related exhibitions during the year. The company also worked with the tertiary education institutes such as the Computer Society of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The City University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University to organize book exhibitions in their respective compuses in order to cater for the needs of the post-secondary sector. Data Bank is currently having connection with the Hong Kong Mac User Group and Microsoft User Club by offering extra discount on buying books and providing information of new books in their bulletin boards.
Prospective:
In the past few years, Data Bank has gained a reputation of serving the customers on their needs of up-to-date computer reference and software. The company will endeavors to keep the spirit of providing quality services and computer reference at reasonable prices.
Data Bank has also kept an eye on the vast market in Mainland China. Special agreement has been made with major publishers for a more generous discount for books for market exploration. The company has participated two book fairs in GuangZhou in 1995 and will participate more the coming months.
