What to expect:
Hong Kong is a world renowned city. It is situated in south-east Asia and at the southern apex of China. It is often regarded as an international finance center and a business metropolis. What has not been mentioned is its beautiful wildness and nature.
The climate in Hong Kong is distinct over four seasons. In spring, the humidity is high and wild life is attractive. In summer, the weather is hot but the streams, waterfalls and natural pools are abundant with
water for swimming. In autumn, the air is fresh and drier making outdoor hiking and camping particularly enjoyable.
In winter, it can be bitterly cold but this is good for different sorts of exciting adventure activities.
Hong Kong is divided into four main regions: Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories and the outlying islands. The biggest outlying island is Lantau on which the second highest peak (933m) is situated. Other major islands include Lamma, Eastern Peng Chau and Tung Lung Island.
There are four main hiking trails in Hong Kong: 1) the 100km Maclehose Trail, running in east-west direction in the New Territories, 2) the 70km Lantau Trail on Lantau Island, 3) the 50 km Hong Kong Island Trail and 4) the Wilson Trail, running in a south-north direction, crossing different areas of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories.
Besides the four main hiking trails, there are in fact many wonderful and exquisitely beautiful adventure routes that are mostly hidden or hardly known. In Hong Kong, there are over 100 streams along which you can trek. Many of them are breathtaking for their great waterfalls, crystal-clean natural pools and peaceful environments. You can almost imagine that you are Robinson Crusoe, exploring the untamed beauty of nature here. Other than streams, Hong Kong has superb coastlines. You can trek along the coast, admiring the matchless sea views and learning to the natural sounds of the sea.
In terms of camping activity, Hong Kong has 39 designated camp sites in country parks. Most of these have lavatory and fresh water facilities. Our qualified guide (mountain leadership instructor) will take you for a long but memorable hike in a chosen area (depending on preference and choice). Later you can sit back and relax over a "cup of tea" while our staff put up the tent and prepare dinner.
The over-night camp trip includes all equipment (e.g. 50 liter backpack, mattress, tent, cooking utensils), lunch (pre-made) and dinner (wild cooking), transportation and personal insurance.
