‘Willsafe’ takes care of your Wills in a very safe and secure environment. Security Systems (Far East) Ltd has exceeded our expectations in the service they provide. Willsafe is our unique maintenance and storage system, which is more than just putting your Wills under a very sophisticated lock and key. We will check with you each year whether there have been significant changes since your Will was signed. You will receive a letter (or e-mail for Essential Wills clients) with a check list of possible changes that mean you need to look at the Will again, and re-write it if the changes are major ones, thus keeping your Will up to date, and therefore never wrong. When we approached Security Systems (Far East) Ltd to provide a solution to problems our ever-expanding collection of Wills was creating, we expected that they would come up with something safe and fireproof. They did that and more. We have a dedicated room in their Quarry Bay premises. New Chubb Fireproof safes, the latest model able to withstand a fierce fire for many hours and survive a drop of 30 feet without any damage to the contents, tailor made to our needs. Each drawer is locked individually. Your Will is as safe as it can be. The room itself is permanently locked and access can only be gained by the use of a keypad, which changes the order of the letters every time the door is opened. A closed circuit television camera is activated when there is movement in the room. We have 24-hour access to this room and emergency arrangements are in place just in case we are not here when a Will is needed. Why should you worry about this? A Will must be presented to the Probate Office in very good condition. There is the obvious risk of fire, but if you have a little person in your household who likes to use colouring pencils, any piece of blank paper is useful! Marks would be interpreted as an attempt to revoke the Will. Losing it would mean you have wasted your time and money, aggrieved beneficiaries might want to destroy it, you might be tempted to alter it if you remember something you want to add or take out. Who knows where it is? When a Will is needed, it should be easily accessible. Your executors will be finding things hard enough without having to turn your office over to find the documents they want. If you lock the Will away in a safety deposit box in the bank, access will be denied to the executor until a Grant of Probate is provided, which of course is impossible if the Will is in the box! It was our enquiries at the bank many years ago that led us to establish Willsafe. If we have the Wills in our care your executors will have a letter from us as soon as we have your Will, telling them where it is and how to get hold of it if it is needed. We monitor the changes and help you keep within the framework of the law. If you leave Hong Kong for good we will send the Will on to you once you are settled. No point you having the Will in your luggage with you and your family all on the same plane!
