Services
Clients who may wish to retain our services should contact our office to schedule an in-office meeting for a professional consultation in either English or Chinese (Cantonese or mandarin) during which time we can go over the client’s concerns and suggest a course of action. An initial hourly consultation fee is payable after the meeting, by check or in cash. If we are retained, the consultation fee is waived or it can be credited within 30 days towards the flat fee we will quote after the consultation. Telephonic consultations on an appointment basis are also available for clients who cannot travel to Hong Kong.
Except for corporate clients who may prefer the traditional hourly billing approach or in cases involving novel or complex issues, our firm, as a specialized “boutique” firm, performs most of our immigration services on a flat fee or transaction basis. Under this model, clients can know and control their costs up front and will not hesitate to call us directly whenever a question arises, without having to worry that the billable clock is running. At the same time, we are rewarded for our efficiency and specialized expertise and knowledge acquired from many years of practice which a general practice firm may take many, many hours of research and efforts to uncover while still accumulating time billable to the client for its “learning curve”.
We emphasize, however, that regardless of the level of remuneration, we offer the same high standard of personalized, dependable, confidential, and excellent professional services. Investors and Entrepreneurs The firm represents investors and entrepreneurs in the acquisition of US permanent residency based on investments in qualified business enterprises in the US or treaty investor or treaty trader nonimmigrant visas for nationals of countries which have treaties with the US who invest or engage in substantial trade there. We also assist investors in obtaining resident status in Hong Kong through the Employment (investment) visa category as well as through the Capital Investment Entrant Scheme. As PRC nationals are not eligible to participate in the Capital Investment Entrant Scheme unless they have permanent resident status in a foreign country, the firm also assists such clients in obtaining permanent residency in a third jurisdiction in order to establish eligibility for entry to Hong Kong under the Capital Investment Scheme.
US Re-entry Permits and Acquisition of US Citizenship
The firm advises on the immigration rules which US lawful permanent residents must comply with in order to retain and maintain their legal status and help clients to apply for reentry permits as a protective measure so that their prolonged absence from the US will not jeopardize their legal status. We also assist spouses of US citizens working for US firms overseas in obtaining expedited naturalization without having to fulfill US physical presence requirements and in preparing and filing applications for US citizenship for children of US citizens born or adopted abroad who do not automatically qualify for US citizenship at birth.
Expatriation and Abandonment of Lawful Permanent Resident Status
The firm counsels and represents US citizens who wish to renounce their nationality before the US Consulate or who wish to abandon their lawful permanent resident status with the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to ensure they fully understand their rights and obligations and the legal consequences of their action before proceeding with the process.
Alternative Citizenship
The firm advises on Economic Citizenship Programs currently available for persons interested in acquiring an alternative citizenship and a second passport without the need to fulfill residency requirements. We give unbiased information and advice on the advantages and disadvantages of the available options to individual clients as well as to legal, accounting and consulting firms who require specialized advice and assistance in this specialized area to ensure that the option selected has a sound legal basis.
