SCHOOL OF FILM and TV
The School of Film and Television, established in September 1996, aims to be a professional centre of excellence that both reflects and influences practice in the local film and television industries by providing creative and technical training of an international standard.
It offers a one-year Diploma programme in Video Production for beginners and, for students with some existing knowledge, a three-year BFA (Honours) Degree programme in Film & TV with six specialist pathways.
The programmes are designed to develop high level filmic and televisual skills at the technical and craft level, as well as to nurture and encourage creative and artistic development. They also prepare students for work in a variety of different creative, technical and professional situations.
The School emphasises the importance of creative team work in Film and Television. The director is one of a team, as are producer, sound designer, editor, visual effects editor, screenwriter, production designer and cameraperson. They all make their own particular creative and technical contribution to the whole and all are catered for in the School. To ensure a balance of interests within each intake, BFA applicants are asked to select a specialist pathway of study in advance.
The School is well equipped with state-of-the-art digital facilities as well as more traditional film and video equipment. It provides reasonably generous production budgets for student work, which grow in scale from Diploma projects on video to Graduation productions on film.
