As Hong Kong music festival is around the corner, it is not only important to have a good teacher and practicing; it is very crucial that one finds the right accompanist. A good accompanist not only play some simple note or the "background" music, but provide a platform and support for the soloist to perform his/her fullest potential. Sadly I see too many students who play so well but have like next door neighbour who can play piano to accompany. Yes, the level of accompaniment will not officially deduct marks but if you are competing, you are a professional and it is nevertheless, a performance.I am a piano teacher and also a professional accompanist who participated in many national music competition.
