I am a highly qualified piano and music teacher with over 12 years of experience teaching both one-to-one lessons and group tuition in the UK. I teach all levels from complete beginners to advanced grade 8 and diploma level in piano and music theory, as well as aural, composition, improvisation and general musical knowledge.
Having composed for the new Trinity Guildhall piano syllabus as well as doing recordings for the ABRSM exam material, I have extensive knowledge of the two exam boards and syllabuses. Over the years I have prepared students for the exams with excellent results.
Originally from Norway and having played the piano and studying music since the age of 6, I have now lived, studied and worked as a teacher, pianist and composer for nine years in London before moving to Hong Kong. I completed my Masters in Composition at Trinity College of Music, London, 2009, and I also have a Bachelor (Hons) in Performance of Arts, Classical piano - from Leeds College of Music, as well as:
• LTCL Diploma in instrumental teaching; piano - from Trinity Guildhall 2008
• Accompanist diploma - with Julian Cima 2004
• A-levels in Music, Drama and Dance - from KPVGS Norway, 2000
• An enhanced CRB check from Westminster council 2010
As a teacher I tailor my lessons according to the students’ age and individual needs to maximize their learning potential. I encourage them to explore different ideas such as improvisation, composition and general musicianship, and I prepare and support my students for exams and diplomas when desired. So far I have published two books containing piano pieces with the well-established publisher Musikk-Husets Forlag AS in Norway. These books help students to develop ensemble playing, and in my teaching I draw _disibledevent="text-align: justify; display: block;"> well as a variation of methods to suit the individual needs of my students, and I enjoy finding the best of all styles to make a suitable combination.
I normally make a half year plan for each student with suggestions of repertoire, technical exercises, and which other areas to focus _disibledevent="text-align: justify; display: block;">
I enjoy passing on my knowledge and to provide opportunities for pupils to achieve their full potential within music. My students in general have a steady progression and enjoyment of the lessons. They have a good knowledge of the piano and music, and I am generally very well liked amongst my students.
My pupils vary from across the age range of 5 years old up to adults, and their abilities range from absolute beginners to advanced levels such as Grade 8 and Diploma level.I am willing to travel, within reason, around Hong Kong so I can teach at your home. As I work freelance I can be flexible with times and would be happy to arrange a trial lesson.
