Sho Shirley Cheng (BA, MM, DMA, ATCL, LTCL)
Sho Shirley Cheng, recognized by colleagues and audiences for excellence as a performer, church musician, collaborative artist and choral conductor. She gained a Doctoral of Musical Arts degree in Organ Performance at the University of Kansas where her teacher was Dr. Michael Bauer. She received her Master of Music degree in Organ Performance from Jacob School of Music at Indiana University. There she studied organ with Dr. Janette Fishell, improvisation and sacred music with Bruce Neswick, and choral conducting with Susan Swaney. She is recipient of Artistic Excellence Award and the Irving & Lena Lo Scholarship during the tenure of her studies at Indiana University. Her undergraduate studies was at Hong Kong Baptist University, where she was under the tutelage of Ms. Wong King Yu and attained a Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance and Pedagogy.
In 2015, she is appointed instructor of organ for the Pipe Organ Education Series at Hong Kong Cultural Centre. She was named quarter-finalist for both the 2013 International Gottfried Silbermann Organ Competition and for the 2014 National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance. She was a finalist in both the First Presbyterian, Fort Wayne national organ playing competition and the Poister national organ playing competition in Syracuse, NY. Shirley’s solo performance has been broadcast on NPR’s nationwide programme Pipedreams in USA. From 2010-2014, she served as Director of Music and Organist for several United Churches of Christ in the United States.
