Raphael Leung is a graduate of Hong Kong Baptist University with major in Bachelor of Arts (Honor) in Music Studies, as well as a cello student with Chen Yi Chun - a cellist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. He is active in several orchestras and music events; and he is also a cello tutor with more then 10 years of teaching experiences.
Moreover, he completed the Associate Performance Diplomas (ATCL) of the Trinity College London in early 2015.
Performances and Teaching
During his time in tertiary education, Raphael has taken advantages of various opportunity to perform in Hong Kong and Russia. As a cellist, Raphael participated in various local orchestras, including the Cellistizzimo Orchestra in 2011, the Millennium Youth Orchestra since 2012, the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra since 2013, the Hong Kong International Youth Philharmonia since 2014 and the Hong Kong Baptist University String Ensemble since 2015. He was a cellist in numerous orchestral performances. Recently in December 2015, he engaged in the Side-by-Side Concert which co-organised by the Hong Kong Baptist University String Orchestra and the Hong Kong String Orchestra. In which he showed cooperation with fellow performers, explored diverse movements of songs and gained more professional performing experience. He is an active member of the aforementioned orchestras till now; and he has represented Hong Kong lately as a performer in a ten-day music tour organised by the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra to Yekaterinburg, Russia, in October 2015. He was responsible in cultural and musical exchange with Russian young musicians and collaborated with the Russian local orchestras in some intensive performances in Yekaterinburg. In 2016 summer, he also has represented Hong Kong as a cellist of Hong Kong Youth Strings in a international music festival competition in Slovakia, and got the first position prize. Beside, he joined the music tour organised by Hong Kong Youth Strings from Music Office to Czech in 2017.
Apart from performing, Raphael had also taken advantages to develop his teaching abilities during his time time in tertiary education. He grasped chances to accumulate his teaching-related experience by teaching cello in various music centers since 2012. Besides, he assumed a leadership role in his secondary school, becoming a music instructor of the school orchestra. During which he directed the orchestra and helped the junior students to develop individuality, leading sectionals, and rehearsing several works. Engaging in music education for several years, Raphael streamlined his skills in coordination of a large group of students and became delegated in education field. He became skillwise in coaching different students based on their abilities and pinpointed their strength and weaknesses.
